3/6/26 Update: Copenhaver finished the active pergola installations this week by installing swings and adding light fixtures. Although it might be tempting to try out the swings, the construction site is still active and closed to the public. They also placed erosion control blanket to stabilize soils ahead of leaving the site for the next several weeks before they return in April to plant trees and seed.
2/27/26 Update: The contractor made headway on the site furnishings this week, installing two game boards (chess and backgammon!) and constructing all three pergolas. They also placed benches beneath the passive pergola, the one closest to the DuPage River. Up next is installing the swings that hang from the two active pergolas.
2/20/26 Update: Copenhaver took advantage of the warmer weather this week and finished up concrete pours for pathways and the areas surrounding the active and passive pergolas. They also began installing the recreational tables (chess and backgammon!) and stools near the active pergolas.
2/13/26 Update: Copenhaver poured the remaining three pergola pier foundations and began constructing the forms for the concrete paths. The passive pergola path has been poured, and the active pergola path is scheduled to be poured next week. Please note: portions of the Riverfront trail are closed due to construction activities.
2/5/26 Update: The contractor came back after the recent frigid temperatures to pour foundations for the pergolas at the Riverfront. The first day of concrete pours will be followed up with a second day for the pier portion of the foundation, along with setting the pergolas up for electric connections.
1/16/26 Update: The contractor's crew hit the ground running this week and continued where they left off excavating foundations for the active pergolas and passive pergola. They expect to pour the footing portion of the foundation next week. The contractor also installed a stone headwall around an existing culvert pipe adjacent to the DuPage River Trail.
1/9/26 Update: Construction is scheduled to resume at the Riverfront during the week of January 12. The Village was awarded an Open Space Lands Acquisition & Development (OSLAD) grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for improvements at the Riverfront. The project includes installation of active and passive pergolas, recreational outdoor furniture, drainage improvements, and aesthetic upgrades. Path closures are anticipated during construction.
