Plainfield, IL -- The U.S. Census Bureau recently notified the Village of Plainfield that the Special Census results have been certified. The updated figures show that the Village’s population has increased to 49,962, representing 5,200 new residents and a 11.6% increase in population, confirming the community’s significant population growth since the 2020 Census. The Village's official housing count now stands at  17,329 units. The Village will receive approximately $1.2 million in additional revenues every year until the 2030 Decennial Census is certified.

Mayor Argoudelis shared his thoughts on Plainfield’s growth, “I’ve seen our community grow from a small farm town of 3,000 to a diverse and vibrant community of over 49,000 people today. The journey has been quite remarkable.” The results of the Special Census illustrate Plainfield’s strong residential growth and a greater variety of housing options, resulting in continued expanded economic opportunities in the Village. The updated population count will increase state-shared revenues that support essential services such as public safety, street repairs, and other municipal operations.
