The Plainfield Police D.A.R.E. Program

The Plainfield Police Department offers a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program led by two officers certified in the official D.A.R.E. curriculum. This program is conducted throughout the school year for 5th-grade elementary students. D.A.R.E. provides students with the knowledge and skills to make safe and responsible decisions, promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Core Lessons Taught in the Program

Students participate in engaging lessons on the following topics:

• Alcohol Awareness
• Tobacco and Vaping Prevention
• Cannabis Education
• Over the Counter and Prescription Drug Safety
• Making Responsible Choices
• Resistance Strategies (REAL)
• Stress Management
• Communication Styles
• Bullying Prevention
• Internet Safety
• A.L.I.C.E.

Each lesson is interactive and age-appropriate, encouraging student participation and real-world application. The goal is to build a foundation of resilience, confidence, and smart decision-making that students can carry into adulthood.

At the end of the school year, students put what they have learned into practice with a school project and celebrate their accomplishments with a graduation ceremony.
