Plainfield, known as “Will County’s Oldest Community,” is a residential community approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago. With 48,000 residents and room to grow, the men and women of the Plainfield Police Department strongly emphasize community involvement and are committed to providing high quality law enforcement services.
The Plainfield Police Department is led by the Chief of Police and operates under three divisions (Patrol, Administration, and Support Services). With 64 sworn officers and countless support staff, there are many opportunities for growth and opportunities including Detectives, Traffic Officers, School Resource Officers, SWAT, DARE, Field Training Officer, Drone Operator, K-9 Officer, Bike Officer, Social Media Team, Community Engagement Unit, Narcotics Unit, and many more.

OFFICER PAY (as of 04/30/24)
• Salary range is $75,347 to $119,761
TIME OFF
• Up to 200 hours of vacation per year
• Earn up to 180 hours of compensation time per year
• 96 hours of sick leave per year
HOLIDAY PAY
• Ten paid holidays each year (can be taken as monetary or time off)
INSURANCE
• Health, dental, and vision benefits for all employees
RETIREMENT
• Sworn Officers are enrolled in the Article III Police Pension Plan
• Civilian employees are enrolled in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF)
• All employees can participate in the 457 Plan with the ability to earn matching contributions from the Village of Plainfield
UNIFORMS/EQUIPMENT
• Each officer is completely outfitted upon appointment and provided with the most state-of-the-art equipment.
